LMS implementation is the project that turns a new learning management system into a working training platform: choosing it, configuring users and roles, loading and testing courses, moving old records, training admins and launching. IKHYA, a custom eLearning development company, handles LMS selection, setup, implementation and migration, and builds the courses that run in it.
Why teams bring in IKHYA for LMS implementation
One team for the platform and the courses
Most LMS projects stall on content, not configuration. We build courses in Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, Lectora, iSpring Suite, dominKnow ONE and Elucidat, so the courses and the LMS are planned together.
Every course tested in your LMS
A package that uploads is not always a package that tracks. We test every course in your LMS before go-live, so completions and scores record correctly.
Built to the standards your LMS reads
We publish to SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI and HTML5, and match the output to the standard your LMS supports.
Ready for global rollouts
With clients in 40+ countries and eLearning in 40+ languages, we are used to platforms that serve many regions and languages at once.
Selection, implementation or migration: which do you need?
LMS selection
We turn your training needs into requirements and help you compare platforms, ideally with a trial upload of your own courses before you sign.
You choose on evidence (your content, your reports, your users), not on a sales demo.
Start with what you need to track and report. A training needs analysis is a good input.
Teams buying their first LMS, or replacing one that no longer fits.
LMS implementation
We set up and configure the LMS you have chosen: structure, users and roles, enrollment rules, courses, reports and launch.
A working platform with tested courses on launch day.
Your LMS vendor's onboarding may already cover basic configuration. We fill the gaps, especially content and testing.
Teams that have signed a contract and need a launch plan that works.
LMS migration
We move courses, users and completion history from your old LMS to the new one, and repackage courses that will not run there.
Learners keep their history, auditors keep their evidence, and old courses keep tracking.
Completion history is the hardest part. Decide early how many years of records you need to keep.
Teams switching platforms, merging LMSs after an acquisition or retiring an old system.
Honest note: if you are launching a small LMS with a handful of new courses and no records to move, your vendor's own onboarding may be all you need. Outside help pays off when you have many courses, several audiences, compliance records or more than one language.

What our LMS implementation services include
We set up, configure and support your LMS during the project:
LMS selection: requirements and a shortlist of platforms that fit them.
Platform setup and configuration: structure, users and roles, groups, enrollment rules and reports.
Course packaging: courses published to SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 or xAPI to match your LMS. Old courses repackaged where needed.
LMS data migration: users, courses and completion history moved from the old system to the new one.
Testing: every course tested in your LMS before go-live.
New courses: custom eLearning built for the new platform, if you need it.
Every project also includes
LMS implementation plan: scope, milestones, owners and a go-live date your team agrees to.
Content audit: what to keep, update, retire or rebuild before anything moves.
Admin training and launch support: so your team can run the platform after go-live.
LMS platforms we work with
LMS platforms we have delivered courses to include Moodle, TalentLMS, Docebo and Cornerstone. Our courses track in SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI LMSs.
We also test courses in your LMS on platforms such as Absorb, SAP SuccessFactors, Workday Learning, Canvas and Litmos.
Will your courses work in the new LMS? Check the standards first
The most common surprise in an LMS migration is a course that uploads without an error but never records a completion. Often the cause is the standard. SCORM is the standard that lets a course talk to an LMS (here is what SCORM is in more detail), but each LMS supports different versions. Here is what three common platforms say in their own help docs:

| LMS | SCORM 1.2 | SCORM 2004 | xAPI / cmi5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moodle | Supported (Moodle 2.1 or higher) | "Not supported", though some packages "may appear to work" | xAPI through third-party plugins |
| TalentLMS | Supported (the only SCORM version) | Not listed as supported | xAPI and cmi5 supported |
| Docebo | Supported | SCORM 2004 3rd Edition; complex sequencing not supported | xAPI (Tin Can) 1.0 supported |
Sources: Moodle Docs SCORM FAQ, TalentLMS Help Center, Docebo Help & Support, all checked October 14, 2026. Vendors update their platforms, so check your exact version before you migrate.
What this means in practice
A SCORM 2004 course moving to Moodle or TalentLMS may need to be republished as SCORM 1.2 or xAPI.
Docebo can convert simple SCORM 2004 sequencing into platform prerequisites on upload, but it does not support complex sequencing, so those courses may need their rules rebuilt.
Saved progress has limits. Docebo, for example, documents a 4,096-character limit for SCORM 1.2 suspend data (the field that stores where a learner stopped) and 64,000 characters for SCORM 2004 3rd Edition. Long, branching courses should be tested for resume before launch.
xAPI records learning as statements in a Learning Record Store (LRS) and can track learning outside an LMS. cmi5 is a specification that defines how an LMS launches and tracks courses using xAPI. Our SCORM vs xAPI guide explains when each makes sense.
If your old courses started life as slide decks, it may be faster to rebuild than repackage. See how we convert PowerPoint to SCORM.

LMS implementation plan checklist
Use this corporate LMS implementation checklist to build your LMS implementation plan and see where you stand:
- 1Goals and success measures written down (what you will report, to whom).
- 2Audiences, roles and permissions mapped.
- 3Course inventory complete: format, standard (SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI), owner, keep or retire.
- 4Records to migrate agreed: how many years, which learners (including leavers).
- 5Old LMS data exported to a file you control, before the old contract ends.
- 6Single sign-on and HR data feeds agreed with IT.
- 7Enrollment rules, due dates and certificates defined.
- 8Every course tested in the new LMS for launch, completion, score and resume.
- 9Reports checked against the old system's numbers.
- 10Pilot group run and fixes made.
- 11Admins trained, help content ready for learners.
- 12Launch message sent, after testing and pilot.
Common LMS implementation challenges (and how to avoid them)
- 01
Courses upload but do not track.
Check the standards table above before migrating, and test every package in the new LMS.
- 02
Completion history does not carry over.
Courses and learner records move separately, and each LMS stores records its own way. Map the records early and reconcile totals after the load.
- 03
Old content moves unchanged.
A migration is the cheapest moment to retire outdated courses. Audit first, move second.
- 04
Configuration is built around the demo, not your people.
Start from your audiences and reports, then set up groups and rules.
- 05
Nobody measures the result.
Decide up front what success looks like, from completions to training ROI, so the new LMS reports it from day one.
How long does LMS implementation take?
There is no reliable single figure: published estimates range from a few weeks to many months, because every project is different. What actually sets your LMS implementation timeline:
Number of courses and how many need repackaging or rebuilding.
Records to migrate: years of history and number of learners.
Integrations your IT team needs, such as single sign-on or HR data feeds.
Audiences and languages: each group, region and language adds configuration and testing.
Decision speed: how quickly your team reviews and signs off each stage.
Include these details in your quote request and we can plan the project around them.
What drives the cost of LMS implementation?
The main cost drivers
- Whether you need selection help, implementation, migration or all three.
- The number of courses to audit, repackage, test or build.
- The volume and age of the records to migrate.
- The number of audiences, languages and reports to configure.
- Review rounds and the size of the pilot.
We quote every project on its scope.

LMS migration in practice
LMS migration
Moving 320 courses and 8 years of completion records from Moodle to Docebo without losing a record
Client: a professional-services firm with 5,000 learners.
- What we did
- A content audit that retired 90 outdated courses
- Repackaged 60 old SCORM 1.2 courses
- Migrated completion records
- Tested every package in the new LMS
- Trained the admins
- Delivered in 12 weeks
- Results
- Cut-over in one weekend, 0 lost records and 230 courses live on day 1.
"Every course and every completion record moved across in one weekend. Our auditors could not tell we had switched systems, which is exactly what we wanted, and the test migration three weeks early took the stress out of cut-over."

LMS implementation is the project that gets a learning management system ready for real use: requirements, configuration, users and roles, course upload and testing, data migration, admin training and launch.
It depends on the number of courses, the records to migrate, integrations, audiences and languages, and how fast your team signs off. See How long does LMS implementation take?
Goals and success measures, scope, owners, milestones, risks, a content and data migration plan, a testing plan, a pilot and a launch date. See our process.
An LMS consultant helps you choose, configure and launch a platform, plans content and data migration, and makes sure courses track correctly. Our role is set out in How our LMS implementation process works.
Often, but not always. LMSs support different SCORM versions, so some courses need to be republished or rebuilt. Check the standards table.
Yes. IKHYA is a custom eLearning development company, so we can build new courses in Storyline, Rise, Captivate and other tools, published to the standard your LMS supports.
LMS platforms we have delivered courses to include Moodle, TalentLMS, Docebo and Cornerstone, and our courses track in SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI LMSs. If your platform is not listed, tell us which one and we will check its standards support first.
We quote each project on its scope: the services you need, the number of courses, the records to migrate, audiences, languages and review rounds. See What drives the cost, then ask for a free quote.
Yes, LMS migration is part of our service. Records are the riskiest part of a migration, so agree early what to move, and check the totals against the old system after the load. See the migration challenges.
