    Quick answer

    What is rapid eLearning development?

Rapid eLearning development is a faster way to build online training: it starts from existing content and uses templates, reusable blocks and authoring tools such as Articulate Rise 360 and iSpring Suite. IKHYA's instructional designers restructure your material, add practice and knowledge checks, and deliver a tested SCORM or xAPI course for your LMS.

    Why IKHYA

Why L&D teams choose IKHYA for rapid builds

    Instructional design first, speed second

Every rapid course starts with what learners must do differently, not with the slide count. Your content is cut, reordered and turned into practice, so fast does not mean a slide deck with a Next button.

Seven authoring tools, one honest recommendation

We build in Articulate Rise 360, Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate, iSpring Suite, Lectora, dominKnow ONE and Elucidat. We pick the fastest tool that still does the job, or the one your team already owns.

    You own the source files

You receive the editable source files (for example Storyline or Captivate files), so your own team can update the course later without starting over.

    Ready for a global rollout

IKHYA has delivered 500+ projects for clients in 40+ countries and translates and localizes courses into 40+ languages, with human or AI voiceover. A rapid course can be built once and rolled out in every language you need.

    Compare your options

Rapid, custom or conversion: which do you need?

Rapid eLearning is the right choice for many projects, but not all. Use these three options to decide; we will tell you honestly which one fits when we scope your project.

    From scratch

    Custom eLearning development

    What it is

A course designed and built from the ground up around one audience, with bespoke visuals, scenarios and interactions.

    Key benefits
    • Full creative control
    • Complex branching, simulations and storytelling
    Consider
    • More design and review time, and a bigger budget
    Best for

Leadership and soft-skills training, high-stakes behavior change, flagship programs, topics with no existing content.

    Existing deck

    PowerPoint or classroom conversion

    What it is

Turning a specific slide deck or instructor-led course into self-paced eLearning, with the content rewritten for learners on their own.

    Key benefits
    • The fastest route when the content is already approved
    • Keeps your structure and brand
    Consider
    • Slides written for a presenter need rewriting, or the course feels thin
    Best for

Decks and ILT programs you want online quickly. See our PowerPoint to eLearning conversion service.

Already have old courses that look dated or no longer play? That is a job for eLearning course redesign, which can also use rapid tools.

    Speed

    What makes rapid eLearning fast?

Most of the time saved in a rapid project does not come from the authoring tool. It comes from four decisions made before anyone builds a screen.

    1. 01

Start from content you already trust

Reusing approved slides, manuals and SOPs removes most of the research and writing phase. Our designers still cut what learners don't need and fill the gaps they find.

    2. 02

Protect your subject matter experts' time

In research that ATD (the Association for Talent Development) has published on how long training takes to develop, subject matter experts and project scope appeared to have the largest effect on respondents' development-time estimates (2009 study). So a rapid project should plan short, focused SME reviews and agree the scope in writing before the build starts.

    3. 03

Build from reusable blocks and templates

Tools like Rise 360 let a team save blocks as templates and reuse them in other lessons, so module 10 is much faster to build than module 1. A shared look also keeps a large library consistent.

    4. 04

Use rapid prototyping instead of long storyboards

Rapid prototyping means showing you a working sample early. Iterative models such as SAM use prototypes so stakeholders agree before changes become expensive. You react to a real screen in the real tool, not a 40-page document.

Level of interactivity is the other big lever. ATD's 2017 update describes 4 levels of eLearning: passive (Level 1), limited interactivity with simple responses (Level 2), complex interactions with multiple and varied responses (Level 3) and real-time, life-like interactions (Level 4). Rapid builds work best at Levels 1 and 2, with some Level 3 scenarios; agreeing the level at the start is the simplest way to keep a rapid project rapid.

    Tools

Rapid eLearning development tools we build in

The right tool depends on your content, how often it changes and what your team will maintain later. Here is how we use each one on rapid projects.

Rapid eLearning authoring tools, why each is fast and what to watch out for
ToolWhy it is fastWatch out for
Articulate Rise 360Web-based and responsive by design: courses adapt to every screen and orientation. Blocks can be saved as templates and reused. Exports SCORM, xAPI, cmi5 or AICC packages.Layouts follow Rise's block structure. For a custom interaction, a Storyline block can be placed inside a Rise course.
Articulate Storyline 360Imports PowerPoint slides, including most animations, motion paths and transitions, then adds triggers, branching and quizzes.Embedded fonts, charts and embedded files don't import; slides keep their aspect ratio on phones. Authoring runs on Windows.
iSpring SuiteWorks inside PowerPoint, so a deck becomes a course with quizzes, interactions and role-plays without a rebuild. Publishes SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI and cmi5.Authoring runs on Windows only. Strongest when the content is already in PowerPoint.
Adobe CaptivateCan import PowerPoint slides as Captivate slides and objects; also used for software simulations and 360-degree scenarios.A PowerPoint import creates a non-responsive project, and not all elements import.
Lectora, dominKnow ONE, ElucidatWe build in these when your team already uses one of them, so you can maintain the course in your own tool.Ask us which tool fits your existing workflow.

Reviews are faster too. With Articulate's Review 360, stakeholders review the course and share feedback in a web browser, even if they don't have Articulate 360.

If you want to try a do-it-yourself route first, our guide shows how to convert PowerPoint to SCORM step by step.

    Deliverables

    What we deliver

    Deliverables

    1. A short content plan: learning objectives, module outline and the agreed level of interactivity.
    2. A rapid prototype of the look and one sample lesson for your approval.
    3. The finished course or module library, branded to your guidelines.
    4. Knowledge checks, scenario questions and a final assessment where you need a score.
    5. Optional human or AI voiceover, captions and translation into 40+ languages.
    6. Courses built to WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 when accessibility is required.
    7. The editable source files, so you can update the course yourself.

    Formats and LMS testing

    • Output in SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI or HTML5. SCORM is the standard that lets a course report completion and scores to most LMSs; xAPI records learning activity as statements in a Learning Record Store (LRS) and can track learning outside an LMS.
    • Responsive courses that work on desktop, tablet and phone when built in Rise 360.
    • Testing in your LMS before handover. LMS platforms we have delivered courses to include Moodle, TalentLMS, Docebo and Cornerstone.

    Typical timelines

Typical build times for rapid eLearning projects
    ProjectTypical build time
One short Rise 360 module (15 to 20 minutes, text, images, knowledge checks)1 to 2 weeks
One Storyline 360 module with scenarios and a scored quiz (20 to 30 minutes)2 to 3 weeks
A PowerPoint deck converted in iSpring Suite1 to 2 weeks
    A rapid course of 3 to 5 modules3 to 6 weeks
A library of 20 or more modulesBuilt and reviewed in batches; plan agreed at scoping

Timelines assume your source content is ready at the start and reviews come back on the agreed dates. Voiceover, translation and extra review rounds add time.

    Pricing

What drives the cost of rapid eLearning?

Every project is quoted individually, so there is no price list. The cost of a rapid course depends on:

    1. Course length: the number of modules and minutes of learning.
    2. Interactivity level: text and knowledge checks cost less than branching scenarios or simulations.
    3. Media: custom illustrations, video and animation add design time.
    4. Voiceover: human or AI voiceover, and how much narration is needed.
    5. Languages: each translated version needs translation, layout checks and testing.
    6. Authoring tool: Rise 360 and iSpring Suite are usually faster to build in than complex Storyline 360 or Captivate interactions.
    7. Review rounds: how many rounds and how many reviewers.
    8. LMS testing: the number of LMSs and output formats you need.

    FAQs

    Rapid eLearning FAQs

Rapid eLearning is a way to build online training quickly by starting from existing content and using templates, reusable blocks and easy-to-use authoring tools. It suits knowledge, policy and process training that has to launch fast or change often.

Rapid eLearning builds on your existing content with templates and rapid tools; custom eLearning is designed from scratch with bespoke visuals and complex interactions.

    See the side-by-side comparison

Not if instructional design stays in the process. Speed should come from reusing content, templates and short review loops, not from skipping objectives, practice or testing. The risk is a slide deck with a Next button, which is why every rapid course we build starts from what learners must be able to do.

The tools we use most for rapid builds are Articulate Rise 360, Articulate Storyline 360 and iSpring Suite, with Adobe Captivate, Lectora, dominKnow ONE and Elucidat when they fit your workflow.

See how we choose the tool

Rapid prototyping means building an early working sample of a course, such as the look and one lesson, so stakeholders can react to real screens before the full build. It catches design changes while they are still cheap to make.
